Bulova - Accutron Spaceview - M6 - 1966

Bulova - Accutron Spaceview - M6 - 1966

At the dawn of the 1960s, Bulova embarked on a mission to revolutionize the watch industry with the introduction of the Accutron line. The creative minds at Bulova designed a groundbreaking watch that showcased the innovative Accutron tuning fork movement. This unique design was achieved by reverse-printing white dial markings on the crystal itself, thereby removing the traditional dial and exposing the mesmerizing green circuitry and tuning fork mechanism beneath. This bold move not only highlighted the technological marvel within but also transformed the watch into an eye-catching display piece.

Initially, these modified watches, known internally as the caliber 214, were intended solely as sales aids for dealers to demonstrate the Accutron's cutting-edge technology. However, potential customers were captivated by the distinctive look of these "display models" and began requesting to purchase them. Retailers, eager to meet customer demand and not lose sales, started selling these unique timepieces. The unexpected popularity of the Accutron Spaceview led Bulova to ramp up production, ultimately creating one of the most sought-after watches of the era.

Bulova's marketing team quickly recognized the immense potential of their innovative design. To capitalize on the growing demand, Bulova began selling pre-converted watches.

The iconic Bulova Accutron Spaceview M6 214, with the M6 inscription on the bottom indicating the year of production 1966, stands out with its transparent design. The skeleton movement and coils are clearly visible through the crystal, complemented by a white second hand and luminous hour and minute hands. The domed crystal features markers and the Accutron logo, encapsulated in a 35 mm steel case, signed on the back. The battery slot is designed for easy access, and the watch is in perfect working order, emitting the characteristic buzz of the tuning fork. The adjustment lever can be lifted effortlessly with a thumbnail or fingernail, ensuring perfect operation and precision. Completely revised in June 2024, this timeless piece is paired with a 19 cm black leather bracelet, excluding the buckle.
